Laura Flanagan

There is a beautiful secret in the breath. We have an in-built ability to calm the mind, heal the body, energize the whole system in minutes using the breath.

Welcome and thanks for visiting my site!

I first came into my yoga practice in 1992, stumbling upon its mystical magic as a Fitness instructor. I earned my 200 hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) certification in 2004, long after training with some of the most dynamic teachers in the West  including Seane Corn, Shiva Rea, Barron Baptiste, Judith Lasater, Gary Kraftsow and many more. I was fortunate to attend the first annual Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research in Jan 2007 where I trained with many great Yoga Therapists including Larry Payne.

As a yoga instructor, I incorporate both a Yin style of holding poses along with Vinyasa, moving with the breath.  Yoga has brought to me a grounding that I never thought possible. It has seen me through good and bad times ... it is always there to offer whatever is needed, when it is needed. It is stated in the Yoga Sutras that this realization will be had, but only with a very dedicated practice. The balance between strength and flexibility gained through yoga is only a physical manifestation of yoga's benefits. When one opens their heart and mind to the magic of yoga, they soon realize the gains in the physical body are the obvious manifestation of yoga, but this has far reaching effect into every aspect of life. It is said that the true manifestation of Yoga is realized when two things happen: One is that the practitioner feels immense joy that is not a result of any particular material object or other person, and the other is that the gap between one's goals and meeting them is shortened.

As my own yoga practice evolves through my trainings, so too does my teaching and I find myself more and more drawn to the power of breath.  Realizing this,  yoga can be practiced anywhere, anytime, under any circumstance through breath alone.

The Roots of Yoga

Krishnamacharya, who is often referred to as 'Guru of Gurus', is responsible for almost all of what we currently know as Yoga. To see him in Asana and Pranayama, check out this rare video of him taken in 1938:

Where is the delusion when the Truth is known?

Where is the disease when the Mind is clear?

Where is death when the Breath is controlled?

Therefore, surrender to YOGA

“As a bee seeks nectar from all kind of flowers, seek teachings everywhere. Like a deer that finds a quiet place to graze, seek seclusion to digest all that you have gathered. Like a madman beyond all limits, go wherever you please and live like a lion completely free of all fear.”
